The Gemstone Amazonite

Amazonite is an opaque green gemstone.

The name is taken from the colour of the Amazon river but it is doubtful that the gemstone was ever occurred there.

It is a type of Microline Feldspar, others Feldspar gemstones include Moonstone, Labradorite & Sunstone.

The stone has a hardness on Moh’s Scale of 6 and tends to be cut into beads and cabochons.

Amazonite can be found in Russia, the USA, Madagascar and Brazil.

The fabulous Ms Simpson earrings are made from large smooth drops of Amazonite with contrasting amethyst cabochons & highlighted with diamonds.
