How are diamonds are priced?

As, we reach the end of April it seemed remiss of me not to post something about diamonds, this month’s birthstone.  The price of diamonds is actually quite structured, they are based primarily on their size or carat weight and then by their colour and clarity.  This information will be gained from the diamond laboratory certificate.

In general rounds are more expensive than other shapes and have their own separate price list.  Fluorescence, cut and symmetry will affect price too. There is one hard and fast rule, you get what you pay for, if a diamond is heavily discounted there will be a reason.

Diamonds are priced internationally in US dollars so fluctuations in this will therefore change the price accordingly.

My best advice to anyone wanting to purchase a diamond is to take advice!
